Transforming the Kitchen…in 5 months
We closed on this quaint cabin tucked away in the woods of Sevierville, TN in January 2025. Justin and I visited the house shortly after closing and went straight to work—first action item: remove the kitchen’s top cabinets. I’d been eyeing open shelving in kitchens and itching to try it out in this kitchen. When the cabinetry came down, it transformed the look of the kitchen completely! This was our major “demo” part of the job.
Then, we brought in a contractor install ship lap on the walls, the shelf, and fit in our new hardware. Justin made the excellent call of putting tongue and groove on all the ceiling, and that was a game changer. Every time I look at the ceiling, I do a happy jig in my heart. Lastly, we had an electrician install our light fixtures.
Next step was nailing down a color. I wanted to try something moody. I’d never gone with a bold color and I wanted to be brave lol.
Inspiration: Moody and rich tones + brass hardware + black countertops
Drumroll….here are the final before and after pictures!
Do I wish I did anything differently? I love the paint color in the kitchen, it was the exact moody color I wanted. However, I wish I went with either satin or eggshell finish. As I’m finding out, the higher the gloss, the brighter the color. The kitchen still looks a dream, but where I’m noticing the color pops and I wanted it to absorb.
